Criteria for exemption - Korean

  • Students who have obtained beginner or higher grade for Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) by the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation
  • Students who have obtained grade 1 or higher for Korean Language Proficiency Test (KLPT)
  • Students who have obtained grade 4 or higher for KBS Korean Language Proficiency Test
  • Students who have passed the Korean test of Ajou University Korean Language School
  • Students who have completed Korean lecture opened at graduate school

  • Qualification for application : Students who have obtained at least 18 major credits for each course with GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Qualification criteria : 60 points or higher out of 100 points for each subject of each course

Requirements for obtaining degree


Doctorate course

1) At least 3 papers or patents(IF total 10 or more)
※ Paper: International journals (SCI(E)), at least 1 paper as first-author
※ Patent: Listed as inventor, Domestic/international only the registration is accepted
2) At least 2 presentations at a national-scale conferences or an international conferences (co-author accepted)
3) Public announcement is mandatory


Master’s course

1) At least 1 papers or patents(IF 2.0 or more)
※ Paper: Journals listed in Research Foundation of Korea or higher (co-author accepted)
※ Patent: Listed as inventor, domestic/international application, registration are all accepted
2) At least 1 presentation at a national-scale conferences or an international conferences (co-author accepted)

Thesis for Degree

  1. STEP 1
    April/October (one semester before desired graduation) : Submit Thesis Plan
  2. STEP 2
    March/September (Master’s course), February/August (Doctorate and integrated courses) : Submit preliminary examination report
  3. STEP 3
    May/November (Master’s course), April/October (Doctorate) : Submit thesis for degree
  4. STEP 4
    June/December (Master’s, Doctorate, integrated courses) : Official presentation and final review for thesis
  5. STEP 5
    July/January (Master’s, Doctorate, integrated courses) : Submit the printed copy of thesis

Check the academic schedule of the relevant year because academic schedules may vary.

Alternative system of Master’s degree thesis(planned to be applied starting from students enrolling in first semester of 2023)

  • For Master’s course students enrolling in a general graduate school and who have completed the thesis alternative system, the thesis examination can be replaced if the criteria below are met.
